June 14, 2000:
A nice talk
In
the morning of June 14 we visited the headquarters of the José Carreras
International Leukemia Foundation. The nice welcome and the animated talk
with some of the employees has shown us, that we have a lot of friends
there. We were sure proud of the praise, which we got for our web site.
When we left the building we somehow felt like having grown for some centimetres.
In the „Parc Güell“
Our
next destination was the Parc Güell, a unique and colourful park,
which buildings mostly come from the famous Catalan architect, builder
and artist Antoni Gaudi.
The park, which has been declared
by the UNESCO to a „world culture heritage“, is a terrific combination
of hilly landscape, flowers, trees, columns, mosaiks, statues, fountains
and some buildings. In the middle of the park you can find the Casa-Museu
Gaudi (a work of the architect Berenguer), home of Gaudi until to his death
in 1926, now a museum. On top of the hall of the 100 (actually 84) columns,
which reminds of a temple, is a plateau surrounded by the possibly longest
bench of the world. The bench which is ornated with mosaiks is 152 metres
long.We visited the Gaudi museum and went up to the highest point of the
park, where you can find a cross on the mountain peak.
The lecture and the lecturer
In
the evening we were lucky to attend a lecture for the „Friends of the Liceu“.
The lecturer was José Carreras, this time not singing, but talking.
I liked the lecture very much, though I have great difficulties with Spanish(to
say the truth my Spanish knowledge amounts to zero). I have heard already
from a lot of others, who like his speaking voice, too.
I think that my try to laugh at
the right places of the lecture was quite successful. I better not report
about our silly giggling before the beginning of the lecture.
