The Columbus Column and an umbrella
On the morning of June 13, in order to get a first overall view from Barcelona we climbed up (we used the elevator) the Columbus Column near the harbour. It was raining. I noticed that it wasn’t so easy at all to buy an umbrella in Barcelona. After we went through the whole department store El Corte Inglés, we found such a rare piece in a little corner on the first floor of the house. The restaurant on the 9 th floor made a second view over the rainy town possible for us. On one of the next days we noticed that the view was even more gorgeous, when it was sunny.
Preparations
Most of the afternoon we spent with picking up the desired tickets for our first „Sy“ performance and the various tries to get our spirits and our beauty ready for the performance. I must say that the spiritual part made only less difficulties, but that I was rather uncertain about my success in the beauty part
Sly
The Liceu is a lovely opera house, which has been predominently reconstructed in its old style. Before the performance we looked around in the house a bit, the Mirror Room in the foyer is very magnificent. My place at the very end of the so called Amfiteatre turned out to be excellent, not only because of the good acoustics, but also because of the good view, which isn’t available on all places in opera houses with this architecture.Because of my good place I had the opportunity to do some photos:
Of course we liked the performance, though my ears, being used to Verdi and Donizetti operas, had quite a bit to digest. The music of the opera „Sly“belongs definitely to the classical music style of the 20 th century. José Carreras intense interpretation of Sly, his identification with the role, which I had known before only from videos, was sure a great help to me. He doesn’t only play a role, he is the person, which he plays.
