June 17, 2000:

Golondrina

Golondrina, Port VellGolondrina, Port OlympicIn the morning of June 17 we took one of the white Golondrina( golondrina = swallow) boats, to do a trip, which brought us along the harbours and beaches of Barcelona to the olympic harbour and back. Now at least none could say any longer, that we haven’t seen the beaches.Barcelona has a nice sight from the water, too.

The cable lift

Der Hafen von obenDie SeilbahnBack from our voyage we ran near of the Mare Magnum(a shopping mall) into some painters, who offered their paintings for sale on that place. I liked the water colours of one of the painters most, no wonder, because he preferred almost the same way of painting like I do. I told him, that I liked his paintings and that I was a painter, too. I didn’t tell him however, that I’m only a hobby painter, my praise may not have pleased him so much then.

Port Vell von obenAfter lunch in one of our favourite restaurants we started for Barceloneta, where we took the cable lift, which goes up the Montjuic. The cable lift seemed to be rather old and the tower was covered with scaffoldings and tarps. Nethertheless we reached our destination safe and sound after a wonderful drive above the harbour.

No, Giorgio

The evening of June 17 should provide us with a special culinary experience. In a town called Calafell, so it had been written in a newspaper, was a restaurant, in which they were serving a dish with the name José Carreras. With the help of a friend, who was familiar with Catalonia and after an exciting drive on Spanish motorways we reached the town, where we started to search for the restaurant. The name of the restaurant was „Giorgio“, what didn’t remind me of the movie „Yes, Giorgio“ with Luciano Pavarotti until I saw the photos of the tenor, who is known as a „Pasta lover“,on the wall of the Italian restaurant. A look on the menu brought us some disappointment, only a dish with the name Pavarotti, no Carreras. Neither the cook nor the waiter could be persuaded to serve us the right thing. Poor service, no imagination, we would not have noticed anything wrong if they would have served us a Carusa for a Carreras, as long as the dish would not have started to sing.
Finally we were satisfied with some neutral dishes, I had a pizza. At first I was surprised by the prices, because there was parking a Jaguar in front of the restaurant, but when I saw the mini pizza, I wasn’t surprised any more. Even the admittedly delicious strawberry ice with strawberries and cream wasn‘t able to calm down my rumbling stomach. No, Giorgio.
here it goes on with June 18, 2000
